PROFILE OF DIRECTOR
In 1994 JoAnne moved to become a lecturer at the University of Northumbria. Her teaching focused on the skills of musical direction and leadership, but included composition and vocal skills. She directed the University Choir.
JoAnne first came to the Bahamas in 1976 when her father came to undertake some work for the Commonwealth Office. He came to design the Mackey Street Education Learning Resources Unit, and JoAnne spent some time as a student at Queen’s College. She returned to the Bahamas in 1998 to become a faculty member in the music department of the College of the Bahamas. At C.O.B. JoAnne held the position of Instrumental Programme’s Co-ordinator, wrote and delivered courses for the Music BEd and introduced computer technology into the music curriculum.
JoAnne is now working for a company that she has been involved in setting up that is dedicated to expanding the range of opportunities in the performing arts in the Bahamas. This company is called Nassau Castle Productions. Nassau Castle Productions identifies the gaps – from school to performance – and attempts to bridge the gap. Nassau Castle Productions is also trying to generate a professional platform for performance so that the most talented performers don’t have to leave the Bahamas to achieve a future in performance.
JoAnne has been working for Nassau Castle Productions since October 2006. That same month she was invited to become the conductor of the Bahamas Concert Orchestra and three months later she launched the string apprenticeship programme in order to rejuvenate the orchestra.
JoAnne offers tuition in conducting, voice, piano and clarinet, and she undertakes projects in composition and performance.
